Our Story

Our church in Canberra started with one family who were filled with the Holy Spirit in Geelong and moved to Canberra in 1958.

God worked with them as it says in Mark 16:25 'with signs following' - healing, salvation, men and women filled with the Holy Spirit, speaking in tongues as the Bible says happened in the early church and during all the great revivals that have happened down through the ages.

In those days, 'speaking in tongues' was mostly opposed by the churches of the day as something strange and not necessary for today.

The first meetings were held in a run-down hall at Corroboree Park in Ainslie, but as the church grew we moved into a building near the Hackett shops. Further growth meant moving again, and by that time an architect had joined our church. He designed our new premises in Chandler Street, Belconnen and we have been there since 1978. Little did our architect realise that he would later become our senior Pastor.

In 1998 we built a second hall in Chisholm to cater for the growing number of families living in the Tuggeranong and Queanbeyan regions.

During this time men and women moved away from Canberra to Sydney, Wollongong, Goulburn and Wagga Wagga, starting churches in those places as well. Others moved out from our associated fellowships in Melbourne and Adelaide to England, Europe and the USA, and then the gospel with 'signs following' spread to Papua New Guinea, where our fellowship now numbers over 40,000, and also to Fiji, Vanuatu, Brazil, India, South East Asia and Africa.

There has been a great outpouring of the Holy Spirit in these last days, and we in Canberra are excited to be part of this 'last days' harvest.
